Resources for Facilitators

These resources have been crowdsourced from individuals and organizations that offer resilient responses to the combined crises of these times. The first section includes resources for beginner facilitators or more advanced facilitators seeking easy-to-understand, straightforward guides for group facilitation.

A common theme that often appears in climate groups is a sense of relief in feeling less alone in the crises. In addition, difficult feelings can also emerge. Because of this, it is crucial as a facilitator to be prepared with methods and practices for emotional regulation and additional support and referrals beyond the group if needed, such as the crisis support resources listed on CPA-NA’s website. Additionally, we recommend that group facilitators review the legal considerations detailed on the Hub.  The second and third sections offer deeper dives into particular areas you may want to weave into your group facilitation.

Intersectionality and Facilitating Groups

The climate crisis impacts all of us differently, depending on such factors as our class, race, gender, age, sexuality, and bioregion.  Social injustices intersect and are compounded and magnified by climate change. Those who are the least responsible for climate change are often the most negatively impacted. Facilitation of climate emotion support groups requires an understanding of these intersecting injustices.  As our awareness increases, so does our ability to provide compassionate and competent care for all.

We recommend reviewing the following resources before running groups:

We recognize that the resources below do not represent the diverse voices participating in, facilitating, and leading climate emotions support groups.  We are actively working on identifying and increasing the visibility of  underrepresented voices on the site. If you have any suggestions for resources related to  facilitating groups, especially by those that are underrepresented, such as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), please submit them HERE.
